Mt. Pleasant & Surrounding Area

Mt. Pleasant Community Church is located in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the county seat of Isabella County and home to Central Michigan University. Mt. Pleasant is a classic college town of 26,000 people. Another 10,000 live in adjacent Union Township, and the town’s merchants and cultural attractions serve a three county population of around 140,000 in the center of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. Community Church’s worship and programs attract regular attendees and participants from throughout this region.

Mt. Pleasant and the surrounding region offers a broad-based environment usually found in much larger cities thanks to the presence of Central Michigan University, Mid Michigan Community College, and the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort, which is owned and operated by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. Mt. Pleasant is within a 3-hour drive of every major market in Michigan and is linked to one of the largest industrial and consumer markets in the United States. Its excellent public schools, full range of services, and access to cultural resources and recreational opportunities offer the citizens of Mt. Pleasant an excellent quality of life.

Economic base – It is well diversified with a balanced mix of manufacturing, retail, commercial, and medical services. Employment is generally stable with the Mt. Pleasant area normally enjoying one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state of Michigan.

Medical Care – Mt. Pleasant is served by Central Michigan Community Hospital, a not-for-profit, locally-governed community hospital, offering a full range of health and wellness services from the hospital campus and off-site locations. Receiving top ranking from medical accrediting agencies and a highly regarded medical staff, the hospital maintains links with the University of Michigan Medical Center and includes a cancer treatment center and a brand-new Family Birthing Center. Another major provider, MidMichigan Health, maintains a sizable clinic in Mt. Pleasant with hospitals in neighboring Clare and Alma.

Education – Significant contributor to the regional economic base.
• Mid-Michigan Community College – a two-year community college.
• Central Michigan University – a doctoral research intensive university with a full range of undergraduate programs and the opportunity to pursue graduate study in many fields.
• Alma College – a private, four-year liberal arts college.

Quality of Life
• Seven well-equipped municipal parks situated along the 80-mile Chippewa River, four of them linked by a system of river-front nature trails.
• A major corridor offering many popular big box stores and chain restaurants, and a traditional downtown shopping district offering boutiques and intimate restaurants, banking and other commercial services.
• Public and commercial recreation and exercise centers offering year-round ice rinks, dance, soccer, baseball, football and other personal and organized exercise opportunities. Nearby recreational opportunities include 15 championship golf courses, boating on inland all-sports lakes or fishing on wake-only lakes, easy driving distance to Great Lakes beaches and lakeside communities.
• Exceptional cultural opportunities available through University-sponsored concerts, theater, and events throughout the year. The region also boasts a rich American Indian heritage, with opportunities to explore and learn through the Ziibiwing Cultural Center and events sponsored by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
