The Culture of Community Church

There are many words and phrases that could describe the culture at Community Church. These are some of the ones that we believe best describe our culture.

Reaching Beyond Our Walls

• Vacation Bible School: Each summer the facility is transformed into one of six rotating thematic children’s outreach programs. Over 650 children are attracted to this creative week, with 2/3 of them coming from the community and beyond. 450 volunteers of all ages participate. It has been reported that kids choose this over Disney!

• Women’s Comedy Night Out: Each winter we offer a one-of-a-kind event for women of all ages and stages of life in our community. What began as a one night outreach event has turned into four nights, with tickets selling out within hours so over 1500 women may attend.

• Community Compassion Network (CCN): We believe all people matter to God and so ought to matter to us regardless if they are right in our backyard or on the other side of the globe. Community Compassion Network is our growing compassion ministry that seeks to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual nourishment of those in need in our community. CCN has distributed over a million pounds of food to people in the Mt. Pleasant area since 2005. Click here to watch a highlight video >

• Outreach beyond Mid-Michigan: Beyond our local area we engage in the fight against AIDS, facilitate short term mission trips and support career Missionaries. Community Church is actively engaged in places like the Dominican Republic, Africa, Eastern Europe, and South America.

Grace Filled
Community Church is a place where people can come and be accepted for who and where they are in their spiritual journey. There is an atmosphere where people can feel comfortable to express their questions and doubts. Community Church is a safe place for people to explore faith.

Diverse Congregation
Diversity takes many forms at Community Church. People from a wide range of churches and faith experiences—as well as many with no church backgrounds—have found a spiritual home at Community Church. People who left the faith and have returned or are on their way back find a welcome at Community Church. The church attracts people from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds and is intergenerational.

Multigenerational
Although Community Church attracts a large number of families with small children, people of all ages feel welcome and participate fully. This makes the church a great place to worship and serve. It is not uncommon to see kids, youth, parents and grand parents working side by side in building a set for Women’s Comedy Night Out or Vacation Bible School.

Spirit of Volunteerism
Most ministries are volunteer led and driven, with staff often in a supporting and cheerleading role. Community Church operates largely on the principle that effective ministry happens when high-capacity volunteers come forward with a vision and passion for ministry in a particular area. The blessing of the elders and support from an effective staff representative empower them to build a thriving ministry. Currently we have over 600 regular volunteers and literally thousands of regular or short term volunteer opportunities over the course of a year.

A Church of Small Groups
At Community Church we strive to offer the benefits of a large church while maintaining the warmth and connection of a small church. Community Church has nearly 600 people that meet regularly in small groups for fellowship, study, and prayer.

We also offer Hope and Support Groups that provide encouragement to people facing divorce, addiction, or grief, as well as enrichment opportunities related to finances and marriage.

Creative Worship, Biblical Teaching
The heartbeat of Community Church is its weekly gatherings for worship. Sunday services are designed both to enrich believers and to engage seekers through drama, video, upbeat music, and relevant teaching. We have two worship venues: the auditorium, which seats nearly 600 people, and The Venue, a cafe style worship experience with a more unplugged feel, seating about 150 people.

Strong Children’s Ministry and Growing Family Ministry
Approximately 400 children and 200 volunteers are involved in our weekly children’s programs. Many of the people in the church were drawn to the church because their children started attending and they followed their kids.

Family Ministry offers once a month events to help bring families together and encourage them in their relationship with one another, the church and God. Recent events have included a Family Funniest Home Video Night, Family Talent Night, and Family Faith Night. Click here to watch the winner of last years Family Talent Night >
