The Opportunity
For the right individual, being
the Senior Pastor at Mt. Pleasant Community Church could be very
rewarding.
•
Community Church values creativity and fun. It’s a church where
the Senior Pastor and staff have the freedom—indeed, are
invited—to be creative in their teaching and programming. The
congregation is also used to humor and even comedy (see Women’s
Comedy Night in the Culture section).
• Community Church is an outward-focused church. We have a heart
for the un-churched and/or previously churched, and we go to
great lengths to communicate the gospel in a winsome manner.
• Community Church is poised for further growth. With a
membership of 580 and average Sunday attendance of 1120 (750
adults/ 370 children), Community Church is the largest church in
the area. Yet we believe that there is still a large number of
people in our area who need Christ. Whether we should seek to
accommodate more numbers at the current church campus is a
matter for discussion. But we certainly believe that God has
much more fruit for us in the Central Michigan area.
• Community Church is a healthy church. While we certainly have
our issues and challenges, we are basically unified in a common
faith and a shared purpose. We have a remarkably positive spirit
on our staff and Board.
• Community Church is a
“destination” church for making a long-term impact. This
pastorate should not be viewed as a “stepping stone” to bigger
and better things. Rather, the congregation is expecting its
next pastor to make a long-term commitment to the community. In
return, the church can be expected to reward its pastor with
loyalty, responsiveness, spiritual growth, and a willingness to
pursue great things for God. |

•
Community Church is a family church. The largest segment of growth
at Community Church is coming from young families with children in
the nursery up through high school. This means that if the Senior
Pastor and his wife have children, they will be part of a community
of peers. Best of all, they will have numerous “virtual
grandparents,” thanks to the multi-generational nature of Community
Church. The prospect is of a holistic ministry that reaches all
ages.
It is not a requirement that the next Senior Pastor of Community
Church come from within the Evangelical Presbyterian Church
denomination, but it is a requirement that he be ordainable by the
Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
