Process of Inquiry
The Senior Pastor Search Committee
of Mt. Pleasant Community Church (EPC) has retained SIMA®
International to assist them in the search for their next Senior
Pastor. SIMA® International has over 45 years of experience in
working with growing organizations in the selection of senior
leadership.
SIMA® International will be coordinating the search process and
working very closely with the members of the Search Committee in
identifying and qualifying candidates for this position. The
final decision will be made according to the Evangelical
Presbyterian Church Book of Order, with the Search Committee
making a recommendation to the Session and the Congregation. The
Congregation will make the final decision to hire by vote.
We (the search committee and search firm) fully respect the need
for confidentiality of information supplied by interested
parties and assure them that their backgrounds and interests
will not be discussed with anyone, including the leadership of
Mt. Pleasant Community Church, without prior consent, nor will
reference contacts be made until mutual interest has been
established.
We know that many of our applicants will come from Presbyterian
denominations where you are accustomed to working with a PIF,
MIF, etc. We appreciate that document; however, we ask you to
work with us in our process. We believe that it will give us the
best opportunity to know you and your heart for ministry and in
particular your desire to lead Community Church.
In order to get to know you better, please provide a
comprehensive application package which consists of:
1. Resume/CV
2. Responses to Essay Questions
3. References

Resume/CV
When writing the resume/CV, substance is of more interest than
brevity. Give enough information so that the breadth of your
ministry experience is understood. While humility is appreciated, it
is important for us to know the breadth and depth of your
involvement and how God has used you in the life of the local
church.
When describing your work as a church staff member, it would be
helpful to know the total membership of the church, the worship
style of the church, the size of the staff, where you were on the
organization chart, your direct reports, your specific
responsibilities and what you feel were the highlights of that time
of ministry.
As we progress through our careers, many of us have changed jobs
and/or employers several times. For each job change, be sure to
include why you moved from that position to your next.
Responses to Essay Questions
In order to help us get a more complete picture of you and your
interest in Community Church, please provide succinct, but well
thought out responses to the following questions:
1. What is it about Mt. Pleasant Community Church that attracts you
to this position?
2. Share with us your spiritual journey.
3. What are your top two spiritual gifts? Describe how you use them
in your ministry.
4. Share with us the kind of work/ministry environment where you
tend to flourish. What kinds of working relationships energize you?
5. Describe your views concerning the role of women in leadership in
the church.
6. Please give us your thoughts on the EPC motto: “In essentials,
unity, in non-essentials, liberty, in all things, charity.”
