Thanks For Your Donations for THRIVE AFRICA!

Thanks to all who donated time and treasures to the Thrive Africa Mission Trip garage sale fundraiser. The sale was held May 22-25 at the Horanoff’s house and was a smashing success! Between garage sale proceeds and some cash donations by garage sale patrons, more than $2,100 was raised to defer costs for the mission trip. Items not sold (and they were mighty few!) were delivered to Goodwill in Mt. Pleasant, for sale in their thrift shop. The 3 person mission trip to South Africa begins July 9, and ends July 30. If you still want to help you can! (read more)

Summer in Michigan is winter in South Africa and the poor in that country need warm essential clothing now. Thrive Africa coordinators inform us that there is a demand for socks, hats, gloves, and small throw blankets. We kept two suitcases from the garage sale (we’ll probably come up with a third) and intend to fill them with these essential items and take them with us to deliver to those in need. The suitcases will be displayed somewhere in the Community Church building. You can drop these essential items in the suitcases any time up until about July 8.

To date, approximately $1,175 in cash has been given to the church through generous donations of our friends, family, and church attenders. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! More donations are needed and it is not too late to help. If you wish to make a charitable donation of any size, please make your check payable to Mt. Pleasant Community Church and write Thrive Africa Mission Trip on the memo line. Donations are welcome from now through the end of the trip to help defray the expense.

This mission trip will focus efforts to evangelize in a part of the world where 1 in 4 inhabitants suffer from HIV. A three-person team of Community Church members will visit this region for three weeks during which time we will visit homes, orphanages, hospitals, detention centers, and impoverished communities. It is our goal to learn how to love and care for these people, to bring them the Gospel of Jesus, and to bring what we learn back for use in our community. We hope this will also be a trip to pave the way for future AIDS mission trips for Community Church to sponsor in the future. To learn more about this organization please visit www.thriveafrica.org. To learn more about the specifics of the mission trip, contact Brian Horanoff at 772-0125 or brianh@bglas.com.
