The New Economy
by Scott McKee

Like many of you, Angie and I are wondering these days how far we can stretch a dollar.

   Gasoline prices are up.
   Food prices are rising.
   Energy bills are increasing.

These new expenses have to be met somehow. We are looking for ways to reduce costs and cut back expenses.

Personally, the state of "our" economy is driving me into a ruthless analysis of my deepest priorities. Should we cancel our family vacation? Should we cut back on our charitable giving? Should we get a smaller car? How do I distinguish between "needs" and "wants"? What matters most?

For each one of us, our priorities determine what we do with our money. We all support what we value. We all make choices.

Here are my choices, in order of importance to me...

This summer, as part of the Sunday morning worship experience, our pastors will team teach a series called, Things That Take My Breath Away. Each week one of our own pastoral staff members will share a unique nuance of the biblical description of the Christian faith. the Venue Returns to the Chapel August 17

Well, it is almost time for those tables in the auditorium to go! As we begin to gear up for a huge fall full of ministry, the Venue service will be returning to the chapel with it's unique and intimate setting -- and it will be taking it's tables along. If you are a Venue regular, or just want to try it out, make sure to mark August 17th on your calendar when the Venue returns to the chapel at 11am.

Where in the World Are the Community Church Pastors?

Pack your bags and grab your travel guide because this fall Community Church is taking a trip to one of the most famous places in the world. Last year Community Church pastors took a journey through Michigan's Upper Peninsula where they taught on location via video on the seven key essentials of spiritual growth.

This year the pastors have traveled with a camera crew to a new location that has a completely different feel to teach on a brand new topic. Small groups, families, and individuals will have the opportunity to join Scott, Brian, and Caz as they experience the sites, explore faith together, and have some fun along the way.

This year they have set out with one purpose in mind-to answer the question, "Who is God?" This six session DVD curriculum will focus on helping you know God on a deeper level by exploring his divine nature. The study is entitled "Finding God in ___________?" Can you guess what location should go in the blank? Stay tuned this month to find out where in the world are the Community Church pastors.

Message from Sue
This summer has been hard for many Michigan families. There has been an increase in the number of first time requests of the local food pantries and our local service agencies are being asked for help with utility payments from first time requesters with greater frequency.
