Mission Detroit Follow-Up

In mid July, a group of about fifty high school students and volunteers returned from their weeklong visit to downtown Detroit. While in the city the group teamed up with a group from Indiana to assist a local church with Vacation Bible School for the neighboring youth. Over the course of the week the VBS program served about 200 children each day including worship songs, games, lunch, crafts, and Bible lessons. It was an amazing opportunity for students to work side-by-side while loving the children of inner-city Detroit.

During the week the high school students also had the opportunity to grow together while participating in afternoon activities such as a downtown scavenger hunt, relaxing in the park, and soaking up a water park. The evenings were filled with a time of worship designed to connect students with God through song, scripture, and prayer. Overall the trip was a great experience and a reminder that the mission field is not far from home. Thanks to all who made Mission Detroit possible this year!

Mission Trips Around The World

While Mission Detroit is our largest group mission trip for youth, there are smaller groups and even individuals from our youth community pursuing mission opportunities around the world.

During Spring Break we sent our first international youth trip to the Dominican Republic. This trip kicked of what will hopefully continue to be an annual international mission opportunity for our youth program.

Throughout July, Mount Pleasant graduate Amanda Webb traveled to South Africa for a three-week mission trip along with Brian Horanoff and Bill Kennedy. While there she had the opportunity to serve and love the South African people through evangelism and children's ministry. We welcome her back and look forward to pictures and stories from her trip!

At the end of September, youth volunteer, Kyla Cornelius, will be leaving to go on an eleven-month mission trip with Adventures in Missions. She will be traveling to the Philippines, China, India, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Romania, Serbia/Montenegro, Croatia, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Mexico. She will be partnering with local organizations to represent Jesus through loving and serving the people in each nation. Kyla has been an attendee of Community Church for nearly 6 years. As a youth ministry volunteer, she has become invaluable. We already look forward to sharing with her in her experiences. This is no small undertaking and Kyla is still looking for both prayer and financial support. For more information about her trip and how to support her visit: www.kylacornelius.theworldrace.org.
