No Longer Alone

Why is it that, although mental/emotional ill health is more prevalent than diabetes and more widespread than cancer, heart, and lung disease combined, it is hardly mentioned in the church? And why, when prayer requests are solicited, are health problems so predominant - but seldom do we hear people opening up about concerns over mental/emotional illness?

The fact is that the stigma is strong, even among the people of God. Even though many of Jesus' miracles had to do with people who suffered from mental/emotional illness Christians often act as though it was a then issue and not a now issue.

"I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." (John 10:10). Christ's promise in this verse speaks about health, particularly mental health. Health is more than the absence of disease. Rather, it is a positive state of well-being. *

This is one of the reasons that the Christian Counseling Services was established in this church.
