Note From Sue

Summer is here. What a blessing. There are blooming flowers and green grass and trees in abundance to remind us of God’s love and provision. During the summer months some of us like to slow down a little and take some time for ourselves and for our families to recharge and just enjoy one another. I know this has been the tradition in our house in the past.

For many of us, budgets are tight this year and there will be less travel and more “staycations” and “daycations” to take their place. While you are planning retreats and respites with your friends and family, I challenge you to consider including a first time serving opportunity as a way to shake up your summer, recharge your batteries and help remind us of all our blessings.

Our July pantries will be held on the 11th at Central Michigan Christian Church on Lincoln Rd. and on July 25th at First Church of Christ on Broadway. In the summer we are always looking for volunteers. To find a place to serve you can e-mail pantry@mpcc.org and Sue, Dave or Helen will find a job that is just right for you.

The Soup Kitchen is also a great place for volunteers 16 years of age and older to serve. Give a small amount of time, 2-3 hours and make a huge impact. Contact Kathleen at soup@mpcc.org to find out what Sundays we can plug you into the schedule.

In June, Sacred Heart held a pantry at their Parish Hall. We have had many pantries there over the years, but this was a special one indeed. During Lent, the parish and the school called on their attendees to bring in personal care and home care items in order to make enough kits to give out at the June pantry. The parish was very successful in their collection and we were able to distribute nearly 400 bags of care items. Each pantry guest received a bag of items. Thank you Sacred Heart for your big heart for those in need.

Another big June project was the Care Kit Challenge. Sue asked members of Community Church to set aside time and money each month to put together care kits for families in our community. Nearly 70 households took the challenge and have agreed to make at least one kit per month for 12 months. We also asked each person who puts together a kit throughout the year to pray for the family who will receive it. Pray that each family would be blessed to know that God loves them and is providing for their needs. Each month our partner agencies request 400 care kits. With a small commitment by many, we are on our way to meeting this God–sized goal. Together we can and do make a difference! Thank you Care Kit Partners!

Soup Kitchen Sundays are still looking for smiling volunteers on Sunday mornings. If you are new or returning we would love to have you on our team for one shift or one Sunday or more. Contact Kathleen at soup@mpcc.org to find a date and time that works for you.

Send'em Back with a Pack. August 2nd - 16th. Look for packs and lists of items in the hospitality center on Aug 2nd. Or, buy and fill one on your own. Each fall there are many children in Isabella county who go back to school without needed school supplies. Help us to make a difference by putting together a back pack filled with new school supplies.

Congratulations! One of our founding members and web and advertising specialist, Jason Freeman, has been offered a new position at a company on the east side of the state. Though we are excited about this new opportunity and Jason will continue to serve with us, we will definitely miss having Jason and family right here in our backyard. They will be looking to relocate over the coming months. We ask that you would keep the family in your prayers. We ask that God would provide clarity and direction in all of the many decisions that come with this kind of move. We ask that God would bring buyers for their home, here and friends and contacts to welcome them to their new community when they arrive. We also pray protection around Jason as he commutes 2 hours each way for the time being. Jason, you are loved and you will be missed!
